Mike Thompson - Little Dreamer #Flyah Review

Mike Thompson was born and raised on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. My travels have taken me literally around the world, but he always seem to follow my wondering feet back home. Mike love the slow pace, friendly people, and the connection with nature that you get here.
He played in lots of bands, from jazz, to country, to modern rock. When Mike wasn't being too hardheaded to pay attention, Mike learned a lot from all the great musicians and friends that he had the pleasure to work with. He would try to pour all of those lessons and a little bit of myself into everything he do now.
Mike like to read make things and take pictures; he try to be a good friend, a good husband, and a good father. Mike like how a great song makes you feel and love the energy of a concert. His approach to creating music is very straightforward and honest. He'll get an idea for a hook, a melody, a phrase. He would kick it around for a while and see where it goes. Does it feel right? Is there some experience in my life that I can tie to it? Is there something to make it be meaningful, moving, or even funny? If it resonates with him, it grows and takes on a life of its own. All that is left is trying to capture the thought so that it can be communicated to others. Rik Emmet wrote that music is "...not just a game of notes, it's the sounds inside your soul." Mike couldn't agree with him more.
Mike was thrilled at and fiercely proud of, how well the new album came out. Some of those songs have been bouncing around his head for decades. It’s been a fantastic experience working with the amazingly talented people that came together for this effort. The tracks all have stories of their own. While never intended, there are themes of compassion and caring, nostalgia, love found, and friends lost woven all through the album. It is where he is in my life. Dealing with the loss of family members and friends, the joy and hardships of raising kids, and the bitter sweetness of looking back on a life lived. Not every part of every song on there is about his life.
He was very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with several big names in music. My producer, JJ Crews, arranged for a local session guitarist to lay down the lead tracks for the entire CD. Before that could happen, he was killed in a horrible accident. Needless to say, we were all shaken. Once we got past the human tragedy, we had to find a replacement. JJ told him he would check with some of someone he had worked with in Nashville to find a session player up there. It turns out the "someone" was engineer Michael Wagener, whose credits include work with Dokken, Metallica, Alice Cooper, Queen, and on and on. He made a few calls, and Mike would get asked if he would like to work with Mark Slaughter. He'll jumped all over that offer! We sent up a few tracks for him to listed to and chew on. After a few weeks, JJ and Mike flew up to Nashville to work in Wagener’s Wire World Studio. Mark was great to work with. He brought in ideas and angles that really brought the tunes to life. All of which were recorded with Michael Wagener’s signature guitar sounds. Amazing!
Country star Collin Raye has been a friend of the family for the last 5 or 6 years. He has done several shows for varies charities we support. He would let him know that he was working on an album of his own and joked that he should come sing on it. He said he would love to and Mike thought that would be the end of that. A few months later Mike was chatting with him and he brings it up again. He was good as his word! So, we made the arrangements, he flew down to Panama City to record at JJ Crews’ Boogie Tracks Studio. We decided to do a cover of one of a fun song from Jay Ferguson called Thunder Island. To say that he was a little nervous to be singing on the same song with a guy that has sixteen number one hits is a bit of an understatement! Collin is a heck of a guy and a real pro. He took all the tension out of the room and it was a fun evening of music. He is a closet rocker, and really had it going on in the vocal booth.
While the average music lover might not have ever heard of Eric Conn, the client list of his Independent Mastering service in Nashville ranges from Ted Nugent to Garth Brooks. His final treatment of the tracks was spot on and makes them really explode out of your stereo.

Hazy Shea - Golden Gatez #Flyah Review

Hazy Shea is an Indie Pop singer/songwriter whose style sparked from the various music genres she was exposed to growing up. Although artists like Janis Joplin Lauren Hill and Lana Del Rey inspire her; Hazy Shea has a niche style that is evident in her music. Her single, "Golden Gates" combines her love for Psychedelic Rock, R&B and pop. With undeniable elements of funk as well, "Golden Gates" can be described as a jazzy funk inspired pop tune. Hazy Shea has been mostly compared to Lana Del Rey with the soulful sound of Adele.

When first hearing Hazy Shea's hit song ''Golden Gatez", I was instantly blown away.  She shows her lyrical skills off with such confidence and professionalism. The beat pulls you in from the first pound of the drums and the piano has a heavenly feel. The lyrics depict the mind of a Gemini lost in love and dealing with their emotions and split personality.   Sometimes in relationships you can feel insecurities and be torn into two directions.  Hazy Shea reminds me of Ledisi, Alicia keys and SZA with the calmness of Lorde.  Her voice and accent is a perfect match for the music.  If I had to rate this song on a scale of 1 to 10, I would definitely give this one a 10. I believe it has the potential to become someones favorite and if she continues, she will surely be a star with the right opportunities and guidance.

Nick de la Hoyde - Hold Me Close #Flyah Review

Sydney, Australia based singer/songwriter/rapper Nick de la Hoyde began expressing himself through music when he was 16 while pursuing a professional, football career in Barcelona. Music quickly became a driving force in Nick’s life and through that creative lens, he began to express his deeply personal thoughts of being a determined teenager chasing his dreams in a foreign land. This early creativity eventually won out and brought him back to Australia to pursue being an artist full-time. Growing up in a multi-cultural home with a Syrian mother and British father, Nick was exposed to many global influences which he weaved into his music melding his love of hip hop and R&B with electronic alt/dance beats together with introspective lyrics that chronicled a young, musician’s journey to adulthood overcoming life and artistic challenges along the path.  Nick and his long-time producer/collaborator/older brother Joseph (ZUZU) de la Hoyde, have crafted a sound that is simultaneously intimate, expansive and engaging. Now at 23, Nick has penned confessional, real life anthems such as Love Takes TimeThinking Bout You, Never Gonna Beg For It, By My Side and Changing that oscillate between moody, textured R&B and anthemic synth laden future-pop moments combined with a lyrical earnestness that speaks directly to today's younger generation.  Nick has quickly made a name for himself, cultivating a large and dedicated on-line following and becoming a powerful voice for youth empowerment and positivity.

Nick's newest installment Hold Me Close is his brightest yet. The track is filled with energy, from its pulsing trop vibes to the swooning vocal melodies - it has enough to lift into exultation and create a dance party of any situation. The single marks the evolution of Nick's musical style into one that is thoughtful of both the senses and the mind, continuing the sense of free-spiritedness that has come to define his music.

Nick continues to cultivate his ever-growing social media following with strong numbers across his key platforms, most notably Instagram which now boasts 358K active followers and Facebook where his following jumped to 160k. Nick continues to focus on his social media through consistently engaging with through a consistent flow of unique, self-produced content.

Kevin Campbell - Only When It Feels Good #Flyah Review

Kevin Campbell’s love of guitar and music started in a sixth grade music class. Unfortunately this love affair ended shortly there after when an incident involving his smart mouth, and an undeserving classmate got him banished to last chair for the rest of the year.
Abandoning music altogether, Kevin navigated the oft taken route of athlete-turned-professional mascot-turned-actor-turned-filmmaker before a chance encounter with a shitty guitar in Montgomery Ward reawakened his love of music.

Though a couch superstar, playing and songwriting came awkwardly for a while. Then when playing his songs in front of an audience for the first time, he realized that this was the scariest thing he’d ever done. Suck in front of people. His friends even. He was hooked.
Kevin's songs draw from a lifetime of disappointments, regret, relationships both good and bad, bouts of frustration, and some actual real fun moments.
If pressed to describe his sound, Kevin would most likely say, "Back off man! I told you I don't know!"  So let's just say if Blues, Soul, Motown and Folk did the deed and had a baby... And that baby was given up for adoption, and raised by a sweet lovely deaf couple that always nodded with approval, though they heard nothing... Kevin's music is that baby.
When not playing shows around LA or occasionally making short videos about monkeys (www.Nacho.com), Kevin can probably be found not doing much. Just the way he likes it.

2018 brings the release of Bad Things, the third album from singer songwriter Kevin Campbell.
With the goal of moving away from the folky blues sounds of his first two albums, Where Do We Go from Here (2014) & Different Shades/Same Blue (2016), Kevin set out to explore new sounds and take on more musical responsibility. This album was conceived, written and recorded in 2 months during the spring of 2017.

Dr. Optimiser - Tremor #Flyah Review

Dr. Optimiser is a producer who specializes in the genre of Electronica. When hearing "Tremor",  I find myself zoned out into a trance where the combination of synthesizers and orchestral sounds are blended and have a feeling of hearing these kind of sounds during a commercial, a documentary series showing the automotive industry or just a techno-based record played on the radio. Dr. Optimiser and his choice of sounds make him a creative genius; in addition to putting together as much of good vibration in each part from bass melody rhythm and chord, Tremor is a party starter. After listening to the track, it had me wonder about where Electronic Dance Music or EDM for short is heading to and the answer is that EDM is growing at a rapid pace and there seems to be no plans of stopping the genre or Dr. Optimiser for the matter. If I had to rate "Tremor", the scale will be a nine out of ten for consistency replay value and a knack of confidence exceeding to make someone feel good when listening to this jam.

the15th - Apparition Party #Flyah Review

the15th is an artist hailing from North side, CA. His taste in music is of the genre of Alternative R&B which consists of Heavy 808 bass in production. Here's my review on his single, "Apparition Party". When listening to the lyrics of this song, He reminds me of Usher mixed with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 by the way he croons his voice in harmonic tune and in conjunction to the choice of production style is reminiscing of Kanye West.  the15th makes and sings on this track which makes him a dual threat both in vocals and music composition. Some may feel that the vibration to the bass in the record is quite similar in holding a PlayStation or Xbox controller meaning they can sense the sensation all through the hands which is a good thing. Music is artistically evolving each and every day and the15th is trying to gravitate to an audience who is in need of grasping aspiring artists with great sounding voices. If I had to rate "Apparition Party", it will scale a score of 8 out of 10 for originality, charisma, for giving energy, and going deep in the song's message.

Timeless and direct, hauntingly beautiful and emotionally charged vocals, with lyrics that cover universal topics from the perspective of a modern woman. A love of different musical genres is a key part of her writing and performance and has become her signature style.

Gerry Hyde - Christmas in Kentucky #Flyah Review

From ever since that he could remember, Gerry had sung with my mom, aunt, grandmother and whole family.  From the time that he could talk; Gerry sung.  He remembered loving Elvis Albums as a child.  Later on it was John Denver, Jimmy Buffet & Paul McCartney to name a few.  He have always been a fan of singer/songwriters.  He realize that Elvis didn’t write his own music, but who doesn’t like Elvis.

Later on Gerry was one of 3 or 4 boys who sang 3rd soprano in front of the high school choir while he was in grade school.  They were the finale when we hit our high notes having no idea what they were doing, but people seemed to like it.  It was Gerry's 1st public performance as he recalled; finding it to be funny how life events seem to move in circles.

In High School, Gerry was kicked out of choir because he was a rebel and much too cool to sing.  He was very shy about music for many years thinking that was for sissies.  He used to try to confuse the choir director by singing with the other sections in the middle of his section.  Students could see her head turn sideways trying to figure out what was going on.  After High School, Gerry would apologize to her and they hugged.  She forgave him, so he thought.

While moving on to college, Gerry had found himself rooming with a musical artist that played guitar, drums, keyboard, and other instruments as well.  He was introduced to Pink Floyd too.  He was taught  how to play picking things up quickly.  His 1st song was Buffet’s “Son of a Sailor”, playing with 4 chords and not 3.

Gerry had got married & started a family. He would put music away for many years until divorce.  At that time, he dug his ole buddy out of the closet, and with no inhibitions or regret, he began writing a lot.  It appeared the rest might had became history; for the record, he never intended it to be that way.  Hearing music in his head, Gerry could pick out the chords in songs pretty much playing them on the spot.  He would dream music; In fact some of Gerry's songs were from dreams.  He would wake up and voice record the idea quickly going back to sleep only to find a ½ written song later on.  Gerry decided that he should take it up a level started listening to my music vs. anything else while hanging out.  Not out of vanity, as he just liked it better. Gerry has a day job and music became a hobby for him, one that he's passionate about.

Dominique De Beau Flyah Review

Dominique De Beau produces another hit with her latest single ‘Another I’
Dominique De Beau has recently announced the release of her newest track Another I, an upbeat summer pop track infused with elements of RnB and dance. The track is set to be released worldwide via all major media platforms on 31st October 2017.

The Liverpool based singer-songwriter achieved success with her debut EP 'Unforgettable', being featured on mix-tapes alongside Jason Derulo, DJ Khaled and Kid Ink, including a mixtape hosted by Iggy Azalea.

After sharing a headline slot at Notting Hill Arts Club with Ayo Beatz back in April, Dominique immediately knew she wanted to collaborate with Ayo to write a new release. It took a couple of months but after eventually finding the time in their hectic schedule to get into the studio together, the writing and recording process was quick, lasting only four hours long, and proving their musical compatibility. After producing the beat, influenced by afro beat and a club vibe, Dominique sang the lyrics 'e una cantena ormai' taken from the opera song 'Caruso' and this was used as a sample throughout the track.

The feel good party single Another I will be available via all major media platforms from 31st August 2017, and for more information about Dominique De Beau, upcoming releases and live dates, follow her on social media.

A compelling sound with a nice uptempo beat, "Another I" is a song that has remnants of today's artists like Rhianna, Shakira, and Gloria Estafan; hearing this record makes me think of a time when tuning on the radio in a car or at home and this suddenly appears on the top 10 jams. Dominique's voice lightens the mood and doesn't stray from the narrative of falling in love. A consistent pitch of blending pop and R&B together in a piece like this speaks to the listener that this is a song many would remember Dominique for and will request this jam multiple times a week. I pictured the song to be a dancing one at first but after hearing the lyrics carefully it's more than a dancing tune, it is a sexy love song that fits in with the contemporary music already played on radio both physically and digitally. If I had to rate this record, I would give a eight out of ten for charisma, true to one self and expression both in artistic value and choice of direction.
