New Music From Torrey Mercer----"Pop at its best" Flyah Music Magazine

The award winning Torrey Mercer is an artist who strives to be brave, and to help her fans and followers become brave with her. Torrey wants to see the faces of her fans light up and smile, and that is her biggest mission as a recording artist. “To make other people happy.” Making her humble beginnings in musical theater, being cast as a leading role in over 30 musical theatre productions.

Making her humble beginnings in musical theater, being cast as a leading role in over 30 musical theatre productions, Torrey always knew that she wanted to be onstage. She entered a variety of singing contests starting at age thirteen, winning first place in competitions such as the National Key Club Talent Competition, Del Mar TV Idol, Search for Talent, and more. Torrey has also sang for a variety of different major venues. She won "Best Inspirational Singer" in 2009 at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood in a competition called "Hollywood's Best New Talent", has sang the National Anthem for the National Football League for over 50,000 people, the US Tennis Open, Girl Scouts of America, and the San Diego Polo Fields, performed at the San Diego and Los Angeles House of Blues, the San Diego Convention Center, the San Diego County Fair, and a variety of other venues in both San Diego and Los Angeles. She has worked with a variety of different vocal coaches in both musical theatre and pop music training, including Dorian Holley, a former vocal coach of both Michael Jackson and American Idol vocal coach, David Coury, the voice coach of Leona Lewis and Ashley Tisdale, Leigh Scarritt for musical theatre and pop training, Roy Mote, Bob Marks, and more.

But if someone were to ask Torrey what accomplishments she is most proud of, she would talk about something much different than all of that. In 2011 she was invited onto a National Anti-bullying tour, on both the East and the West Coast, where she got to perform at Boys and Girls Clubs, Summer Camps, and even Six Flags to talk to kids about ending bullying. Since the tour, Torrey has connected with schools in San Diego and talked to assemblies of children about the importance of speaking up and standing up for themselves when being bullied. Since the No Bully Tour, Torrey has become incredibly inspired, reaching out and working with charities such as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the National Eating Disorder Association, Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego, The Trevor Project, and Natural High. She created a charity music event for each of these charities, bringing them all together for a night of music in San Diego to raise money for their causes. She is also the proud holder of 2 Music Awards, a National Youth Arts award for her single, "Falling Again", and a 2013 Indie Music Channel Award for Best Pop Song for her song, "Looking Glass", which she wrote for anyone and everyone who has never believed in themselves. As of 2013, she has worked with a variety of schools putting on No Bully assemblies, working with thousands of kids all the way down the coast of California anywhere from ages K-8 at schools including, but not limited to Joshua Cowell School, Carmel Valley Middle School, Balboa Elementary, Rancho Del Rey Middle School, and more. Torrey is a firm believer in bullying being the cause of a variety of other issues, such as depression, self harming, suicide, eating disorders, low self esteem, and even abuse. She tries to reach out to kids of all ages on a regular basis in hopes that one day, she could change some of their lives, and help them on their road to recovery.

Torrey has been singing since she was very young. She had bullies and peers shoot her down over and over again for wanting to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. But maybe that is what makes the work that she does to give back to others so special to her. Torrey wants to sing to send a message to her audience, to be there for her fans and ultimately, to make a difference. And after everything, she knows that this is her calling.

BODY:
Shatter Proof Music Group is proud to present the highly anticipated Hip Hop artist Jeff “WestGhost” Jones, and his hit single “We Gettin Drunk” with the feature of Grammy Winner Eric Bellinger.  The single is the first hit of many off Jeff’s album entitled “The Resume”. Filled with undeniable bangers, Jeff Jones is what many will see as a breath of fresh air. His adaptable style, listener friendly tone and ability to flow over an array of beats. Jeff's writing ability is a winning combination of street swagger with soulfulness and melody. Jeff has a melodic flow that he will display to the masses.
Artist, definitely, but a songwriter, Amazing. Jeff Jones is a beast from behind the scene while working with some of the game’s top artist and producer’s. His high energy record “We Sum All Stars” was featured in the hit Disney feature film “New York Minute” and also on the movie soundtrack. He was also on “4 Life,” an urban drama starring Wood Harris (The Wire) and Elise Neal (Hustle & Flow, All of Us).  Jeff has also written songs for or songs featuring hit artists with producers, including Lil Wayne, Akon, Gucci Mane, Ne-Yo, Bun B, E40, Shawty Lo, Ray J, Christina Milian, Chingy, Trick Daddy, Cee-Lo of Gnarls Barkley, and R&B group Midwest City.  Jonathan “JR” Rotem, Jazze Pha, Eric Hudson, Robert “ES” Waller, Jazzy Phae and Jeff’s current single “We Gettin Drunk” producer Big J out of Atlanta.

Jeff’s single is skillfully blended into a seamless flow. One fan said “Its music to relate to as the lyrics gets your mind going and the beats just hits you right between the eyes.” Again Jeff “WestGhost” Jones is a beast and its not just because he can write and say a few lyrics but more so, he can write albums and albums of hits. It's hard to imagine another artist on the Independent Hip Hop scene who combines the same concise, deceptively sound, lyrical insight making it a mix of Quik, Jay Z and Crooked I, with a killer prowess. He may rep the WestCoast but the whole world will love “We Gettin Drunk”, “The Resume” and continue to become fans of JEFF “WESTGHOST” JONES.

Koowl Fury

Since middle school, Danari Smith, aka Koowl Fury has been somewhat of a wordsmith. Coming from Flint, Michigan and moving to Indiana later as a teenager, he has seen people of many walks of life, and many feel they can relate to his words. He would write stories and poems in middle school and was often criticized for speaking quite gratingly on controversial issues. After experimenting a little as a writer, he began putting his thoughts to beats during his years in high school and college. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, he continued work on honing his skills as an emcee for a few years and one day, met Garam Heo, a Korean-American Christian singer/songwriter after meeting him at his job. The two became friends and Garam Heo introduced Koowl Fury to Chris and Craig Reeves, two music producers who founded VIP Sound Circle Entertainment, and to whom Garam Heo was signed. Chris and Craig heard Koowl Fury's music and signed him in 2011 as a Hip-Hop artist. Koowl Fury released his first single "Turn This Life Around" in 2013 and it achieve moderate sucess. A music video was also uploaded to YouTube shortly after its release. Scarzeo

Biography of Scarzeo
Born Delroy Fleming in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, Scarzeo is a straightforward, energetic artist who says what’s on his mind without holding back. He has been rapping professionally for about four years but his love for music and the potential lifestyle it offers, peeked his interest way before.
Although he grew up in the projects this future rapper was inspired and motivated by his surroundings and desired what many young boys in the projects did… money, power and respect.
“I’m seeing these dudes with big chains on and diamonds rings, nice cars, silk shirts and they aint never gotta go to work… and my pop’s going to work and busting his ass and my mom’s going to work and busting her ass, I’m saying to myself, damn! I wanna do what they doing!”
“At the end of the day, I just like the finer things in life.”
Scarzeo later realized that the young men’s overnight successes were attributed to their involvement in illegal activities.
“By the time I was 13 I knew—whatever these dudes doing aint right… but they just look right doing it.”
He soon became involved in criminal activities such as selling drugs and as his name suggests, violent crime.
“Scarzeo… it derived from a lot of negative but it just stuck.”
Scarzeo was living in New York where he continued hustling. At the time, Scarzeo was surrounded by music but never considered a career in it until something life-changing happened.
“Before I went to jail, I used to play with it [music] like a joke”.
Scarzeo claims he never knew how to write music and that he actually taught himself while in prison by studying the mixed tapes of Jay-Z, Young Jeezy and others. He was on a mission to greatness.
“Damn this shit could happen—I could put my life on these beats and I think it’ll be intriguing.”
“If I ever get a chance again, I'm not going waste my time or no one else’s.”
Now the young rapper spends his days and nights in the studio where he is constantly working on his music.
“If I put my mind to it, there’s no way I can’t do it… I don’t see a ‘no’ in this.”
The rapper admits he is still addicted to the “finer things” in life but refuses to obtain any of it illegally. He wants to send a message to young people hoping they would reach their full potential sooner than he did.
“Don’t get too attached to the negative in my story—it doesn’t have to be tragic in order for it to be triumphant.”
The rapper respects Jay-Z and Maino and believes these two rappers have impacted him musically.
“I’d have to say I have a lot of respect for Jay-Z because I feel like he kinda showed me how to conceal emotion and make sure everything is strategized… just from the outside looking in.”
“Maino—I would have to give him that respect because I felt he walked a certain kind of lifestyle… he taught me a lot without even speaking and I spent a lot of time with him in the studio, he helped me figure out how the music should sound.”
Although Scarzeo looks up to many rappers in the industry, his real inspiration in life is his father.
“He showed me how to take care of family.”
Overall the rapper is happy with the progress he has made and is still hustling (legally). He believes everything happens for good reason and if never sentenced, would’ve been dead or doing life—for real this time. When asked if he wanted to leave the readers with anything, he said something which I believe sums up his ongoing life story:
“An Ounce of Strategy Allows You A Lifetime Gravity”

The Perfect Nines

I remember moments of my life through songs," declares Cinzia Moniaci of The Perfect Nines.

The singer and founder of high-end Italian designer handbag line, Moni Moni, pens music that you'll be able to attach to moments of your life as well. The Perfect Nines nod to the fuzzed-out psychedelia of early Jane's Addiction with a feminine energy a la Garbage. That combination makes for music that's as intoxicating as it is irresistible. These Los Angeles indie stalwarts are as perfect as they come…

In this exclusive interview with ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino, The Perfect Nines singer Cinzia Moniaci talks the group's debut album and so much more.

Did you have one vision or vibe in mind for The Perfect Nines album?

I'd moved to New York for my business, and I set up an office there. When I moved back to Los Angeles, it was a time of soul searching. The business was growing, but there was a piece of me missing—the creativity in music. Now, I'm a businesswoman, a mother, and an artist. Music was brought back into my life around that time. I met with a friend of mine in Manhattan Beach where I moved. When we met, I realized he had a full-on studio. I live in a gated community with a giant park and woods I can walk through and think. That was really my only time to do that. I'd put down ideas as I was walking with my dog in the woods. Then, I'd go record it right away at my friend's place. I started involving the other members of the band. The album's flow comes from that same period of me reconciling with music again. The very first song I wrote for the record is "Life Goes On". That tells it all. When you think it's all done and you can't deal with a certain thing, life keeps going on. You learn, get better, and it's a rite of passage. That song took its own life, and then the whole record did. It all came out of me at that point.

Did the other musicians gravitate towards that?

Yogi Lonich [Chris Cornell] loved the record! He's a very accomplished guitar player with a lot of soul. He's interested in producing the next album. He's joined us on stage too. Stephen Perkins [Jane's Addiction] loved it as well, and he wants to be a part of the next one. He even laid down some tracks. We keep getting surrounded by these amazing people who want to be a part of the project. My exposure in the fashion industry furthers the music as well.

What were some of the themes you wanted to tackle lyrically? What's the story behind "Carry On"?

"Carry On" is about the journey that took me here to the United States. I came from Italy 16 years ago. It's rare in this day and age for someone in Italy to move here. When I made the move, it was about learning a new culture from scratch. I'd left my boyfriend at the time too. I was ready for a new chapter. In the song, I talk about the pain I left and the emptiness in that void. The need to follow my destiny was unstoppable.

What artists shaped you?

You were right on with the analogies of PJ Harvey and Garbage. I very much come from the indie rock 'n' roll of London. When I was a kid, I was listening to The Charlatans and The Stone Roses. I also loved The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction. Those musicians very much inspired what we do, but I wanted to bring femininity to it. The Pretenders are always who I've been associated with vocally. It's a mix of that vulnerability in the vocals, which is really me. My personality is very strong on one end yet feminine on the other. I'm the businesswoman and the mother. I'm the girl and the rocker. I'm the fashionista and the aggressive rock 'n' roll girl. The yin-and-yang make the music interesting.

Is it important for you to paint visual pictures with the songs?

Absolutely! I'm glad you brought that up. As a little girl, my goal was to be a writer. My very first jobs were in journalism. I'd interview celebrities and rock 'n' roll people in Italy. When I moved here, I was a correspondent and I interviewed Beck and Gwen Stefani. I was raised to tell stories. I've always been the life of the party. In a song, you have to tell a story in just a few phrases. I learned to write within those parameters with bridges to take things a little further where I'd have more space to be free.

If you were to compare your record to a movie or a combination of movies, what would you compare it to?

There are a couple of movies I'm fond of which have the same effect on me that the album does. One of them is Zabriskie Point by Michelangelo Antonioni. He's an Italian director, but it was shot in the United States. Antonioni paints a picture when he creates an idea. He doesn't necessarily tell you the whole story though. He lets you imagine it in your own way. I also love Blowup from the '60s. The fashion at the time and the enfant terrible spirit of the film impacted me. The character is in search of a calling of eternal beauty and perfection, but he never finds it. It blows up in him and the people around him. That's in there as well as that youth, rebellion, and free spirit. The characters are impossibly beautiful but completely damned because they're in search of a perfection inside that doesn't really exist.
