SET THE SMITH is originally from Minneapolis Minnesota , where his father Charles C. Lockhart founded the first hip hop label called Chill Records in 1985. His father released his first project in 1986 entitled The IRM Crew , which at that time were the first rappers on wax out of Minneapolis. SET THE SMITH was raised off of hip hop . He has released several projects stretching all the way back to 1996 . His father passed in April of 2017 , and as the new owner of Chill Records inc , his goal is to put out what he likes to coin "hip hop soul".. He produces , writes and arranges his own music.
