Somalia has birthed a metalcore/deathcore pioneer by the name Dahir Dubi

A Somali metalcore/deathcore Artist just when you thought you heard everything. This is the type of art everyone needs to hear one that is not simply formed of inner-city struggle and then you just do the obvious thing and get pigeonholed into making drill or hip-hop, or whatever is deemed to be as the kids say “popping” at the time. This is not also a story of privilege where your parents gave you every advantage there is, you studied music at the best schools and college, and your father finally decided to cash in on that favour the big music executive owes him. No this is a story of falling in love with a music genre that no one in your immediate circle understands. Realising, people you have known for years think you are weird and perhaps worship satin. This is a story of losing friends because they want you to conform and just be “normal”. This is a story of being someone you choose to be rather than what people expect you to be and standing up for your individuality.  This release is probable the shortest E.P in history, but the most thought provoking immersive varied E.P you will hear it has been carefully planned mixed and mastered with every single bit of emotion oozing out of every second of sound you hear. It is due for release on the 25th of December 2023 on all platforms. The first single “Knock Knock” has already been released on the 15th of December 2023, the supporting single “Tears burn Eyes” is also out 20th December 2023. “Stand For Something Die For Nothing” by Dahir Dubi is nothing to be scoff at, it is real music from real experiences and it deserves to be on your playlist.

Bio

Dahir Dubi or simply Dahir was born in Somalia and immigrated to the UK at a young age.  Having to learn how to speak English, read and write it as well. He grew up in southwest London rife with inner city violence and hardship, in foster care. The escape was music, so he poured all his emotions into this. Along the way

he has lost friends ether because they couldn’t understand him or because he was not dancing to same tune as them. Or sadly

through violence, drugs, crime, murder or suicide. “Progression of hate” his first jab at

releasing music has been out since 2020. Now for three years he has been working on some new music as a solo artist and with a metalcore band called Careida formed with Tamas Tari they have a single as of 20th October 2023 called Survival.

Where are you from and could you tell us a little bit of your upbringing?

Well, I’m originally from Somalia I moved to the UK as child with my older brother.  We were trafficked illegal into the UK and claimed asylum due to the civil war and unrest in Somalia. We were put into foster care and lived in Southwest London Brixton, then moved to Streatham south west London as well. School was tough especially in the beginning I couldn’t speak English I had a slight accent to begging with, so people were making fun of me. I had a lot on my shoulders for a kid being in foster care wasn’t ideal. I was quiet geeky shy reserved and stayed in my room a lot. I got robbed at knife point when I was 12 or 13, so it meant I did not really start going out again until my late teens after being recluse to heal myself. That didnt help much though because

when I was in my Late teens, I got robbed again but this time at gun point near my old school ether doing some “delivers” or meeting a girl or maybe both. That incident made me trust people less. I have seen friends get stabbed I sew a lot of violence from when I was a child to my late teens. It was crazy. I’m just glad I made it out alive amazingly without any physical scares only mental scares. I’m not saying I was an angle; I did some bad things myself which I’m not proud of, that nearly led to me getting deported from the UK.

What genre of music do you make and when did you first decide to be a musician? I’m make deathcore/metalcore music, but genre is never a barrier for me!  In fact my single is a nu-metal song with a touch of hip hop the song is called “knock Knock”. I did not really decide to be a musician it’s just something I was from a little boy I do not see myself doing anything else, if I’m honest if it wasn’t for music I would not know how to cope with life and probably would have committed suicide.

Who are some of the notable artists and people that influenced your career thus far? It is a mixture. Michael Jackson, Tupac, Metallica, Drowning pool with the original singer Dave Williams, Korn, slipknot, Emmure, The Prodigy CASisDEAD, City Morgue, old xxxtentacion, Scarlxrd, George Michael, Robbie Williams, Elton John and I also listen to a lot of Project Pat. Lol

Could you tell us about your latest projects and its direction?

my latest project is called Stand For Something Die For Nothing the title is self-explanatory. The songs in the project are however different. extremely heavy in the depth of the mind, or population zero, something you could easily fit into a fit for an autopsy album don’t seem like something you could fit into an alternative experimental project. It is out 25th December 2023 or there abouts, but you will definitely get one or two extra videos on YouTube even if there are delays.

What should we expect from you in the near future?

In the near future I want to keep recording as much music as I can, keep releasing as much music as I can I also want to get back on stage and preform I don’t care if there are 10 people in the venue or 100.

Could you give us some advice that you can offer to someone who is just getting

started in making music?

In the begging just listen to a lot of music make a lot of songs experiment and only take advice from other musicians, someone who doesn’t do what you do or have the balls to do it, can’t give you any positive advice because they are not willing to take the risk and follow their dreams them self. Be around those you want to be like, and you will be who you want to be.

Are there any important achievements you have gained since beginning to do music?

I think everything in life is an achievement, depends how you look at it. The main

achievement we should all be proud of is the freedom to do what we want. I’m proud I have that. I’m proud I can wake up every morning healthy and well and be able to make music and smile and laugh with the once I love there is no better achievement, everything else is a

bonus.

Besides music, what are some of the things that you are into?

I like astronomy, all things science, I watch a lot of rick and Morty, I enjoy Syfy shows like

Farscape. I like boxing it’s a very good way to keep fit and it’s entertaining to watch it’s not nice getting hit though it hurst lol. I like reading, nature planets and animals.

Are you currently on tour or planning to be?

I hope to go on a few gigs next year with my band careida, hopefully I can perform some of my solo stuff as well next year. I’m also looking forward to travelling and actually going on holiday something I have never done before. That might seem abnormal to people but to me it is something new have never done before lol.
