GhettoThePlug is #Flyah

Veteran rap artist, Ghetto the Plug is "Back 2 Work!" and still refusing to bow down. He continues to make music to appeal to the streets and is still pushing to “make the word ‘real’ mean something again”. Ghetto is returning stronger and more focused than ever as he continues to use his raw brand of realism to bring his music to the world.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 3. Ghetto grew up on Wildwood Ave., in the jungle of Akron. He was nick-named by younger kids in his neighborhood who would witness him sleeping on the porch after pulling all-nighters on the block. Ghetto’s past is what gives his music life, because he isn’t only giving his listeners the obvious “challenges of life on the street”, but his past and a part of himself in every line he creates.

In 2004, the rap game became an outlet for Ghetto. He decided that he had something to say to the streets that needed to be heard and he was determined to say it. Never bypassing an opportunity, his first major break was in 2007 with a Young Jeezy affiliate by the name of Blood Raw, when he was going hard with CTE. After collaborating on the track titled, “It’s Nothing”, Ghetto was approached by more opportunities to get his words to the streets. Collaborating with artists from Gorilla Zoe, to Blood Raw, and Princess of Crime Mob, Ghetto continued to make himself known to the streets and work his way to the top. Even without any major deals, and paying out of his own pocket, Ghetto continued to gain momentum working with other major artists such as Jackie O., DJ Kurupt, The Joker, Fiend, Bone Crusher, Murphy Lee, 2 Chainz, and many others.

Ghetto the Plug's newest single features Johnny Cinco and is a banging track produced by Cash Jordan titled "Back 2 Work". In this single Ghetto and Johnny Cinco deliver fire blazing lyrics serving the streets and making the blocks jump. This is only one of many as Ghetto is currently working on his new album, "Lord Forgive My Sins", which drops January 1, 2015. This is just the beginning of what is to come from this artist as Ghetto continues to stay focused and speak to the reality of streets through his music.

Somebody Else’s Nightmare
Strength And Kindness
Review by Alex Henderson

Somebody Else’s Nightmare sounds like the name of a band that offers some type of very loud, edgy, brash, in-your-face rock: perhaps metal, perhaps industrial, perhaps punk, perhaps grunge.  But the Sonoma, California-based Somebody Else’s Nightmare don’t sound anything like that.  Strength and Kindness is not an album that is easy to pin down stylistically: this 52-minute CD doesn’t fit neatly into one particular category.  But if one had to have a brief description of what it is that they do, the most appropriate would be “an appealing mixture of fusion, post-bop, soft rock, adult contemporary and soul-jazz.”  A variety of direct or indirect influences assert themselves on this 2014 release, from Spyro Gyra, the Yellowjackets and McCoy Tyner to Paul Simon, Steely Dan and Michael Franks.  On the vocal offerings (which include “Destination Nowhere” and the melancholy “Lonely Town”), it is clear that they appreciate the hipper, more creative side of 1970s/early 1980s soft rock and adult contemporary.  “The Light Will Show the Way,” another vocal tune, combines jazzy alternative rap along the lines of Digable Planets, the Roots or Kuf Knotz with hints of vibist/singer Roy Ayers’ late 1970s/early 1980s recordings (which makes sense because many alternative rappers have sampled Ayers)

Somebody Else’s Nightmare
Strength And Kindness
Review by The Grouch

This is a remarkably well made album by a group of very talented musicians.  My personal favorite track on the album is: Yard Full of Joes - first of all the drummer lays down a funky beat that is just odd enough to be confusing, but not so out there as to make my brain hurt.  Secondly the bass is just bad ass - then the horns come in and honest to God it blows my mind - I find myself grooving to what they are doing with a goofy smile on my face.

Somebody Else’s Nightmare
Strength And Kindness
Review by Dan MacIntosh

Fortuitously, and also quite truthfully, CDbaby.com mentions Zawinul in its ‘Recommended if You Like’ section under Somebody Else’s Nightmare because a track called “Worker Bees” features a great Jaco Pastorius-like bass line – much like the sort he used to regularly contribute to the band Weather Report. (This, of course, was a Zawinul-led act). Strength and Kindness is a solid collection of jazz-fusion songs.
You usually think of electronic instrumentation when considering jazz-fusion music. However, this album’s title cut begins with an acoustic bass line, which is later joined by drums, then saxophone and piano. It’s a swinging, straight ahead jazz tune and quite likeable.

3rd Twin is #Flyah

Little Roy, formerly known as Gemini 3rd Twin, now goes by just 3rd
Twin. Born Roy Moore III in Portland, OR. 3rd twin is a 20yr rap veteran
who has done it all from winning rap battles all across the country, to
being signed to a major label. 3rd Twin started writing raps at the
tender age of 12. He landed his first recording contract with DM
entertainment at the age of 14. Konflic his first group, was formed with
three other child hood friends. One of their first performances was at
Portland's second installment of its only local hip hop showcase PO
HOP2. Konflic by far were the youngest to hit the stage. From then on,
Konflic paved the way for the young mc's around town.
Over the years, 3rd Twin was known for his great talent, remarkable word
play and powerful punchlines. He quickly became very popular and known
as the hottest MC and best lyricist in Portland. With a captivating
stage presence to go along with his great talents 3rd twin burst on to
the Portland Hip Hop scene.
In 1999, 3rd Twin joined forces with another local rap group Pros and
Cons. This was an 8 member group bred out of the great Northwest.
Similar to New York's version of the WU-Tang Clan. Pros and Cons went on
to become Portland's highest selling rap group, selling well over 20,000
units between two albums. Between 2000-2002 Pros and Cons traveled
across the United States and on to Mexico showcasing their talents.
In 2003, 3rd Twin and two of his fellow group members from Pros and Cons
branched off to form a group called DNA (DeNied Access) and got their
big break signing to a major record label Bogata' Records/Universal. The
company owned and operated by 6-time NBA Allstar Jermaine O'neal. The
group eventually moved to Atlanta, GA where they began recording Their
first album. Unfortunately the hardships of being in the music business
prevented them from putting out an album.
In 2005 3rd Twin moved back to Portland and began working and recording
his first solo project. This classic album was never released due to a
burglary at the studio where he was recording and all his music was
stolen.
In 2008 3rd Twin then relocated to Las Vegas with his two fellow DNA
members where they formed the Label Wallstreet Records and began
recording in Las Vegas. It was there that he would cross paths with his
now Producer/Engineer Grammy winner Tiger Roberts who won a Grammy for
producing the Iconic Gladys Knight. 3rd Twin made a big buzz in Las
Vegas even getting the attention and eventually was offered a contract
from the Great Pound for Pound Champion Floyd Mayweather's record label
Philty Rich Records. After contract negotiations stalled 3rd twin
decided to take the Independent route and is now back with a vengeance
and ready to make his statement in the Hip Hop industry. His Latest
Single "future in ya stuntin" has the internet in a frenzy and the city
of Portland Highly anticipating his long over due solo album. In the
words of 3rd twin "there are no bests just favorites" so get ready
because he's shooting to be your favorite.

Elizabeth Butler is #Flyah

Elizabeth Butler was that kid...the one locked away in her Savannah, Georgia bedroom as a teenager poring over the liner notes from Cat Stevens, Carole King, and Dan Fogelberg. She took in melody and song construction and lyrics while listening with the volume up way too loud. It is a fitting portrait of an artist that embraces every aspect of a music career with gusto, from writing, playing, recording, collaborating, and navigating the business. This holistic approach to her career shines brightly on Love and Loss and Stuff Like That, her first solo release.
Butler grew up steeped in a diversity of musical styles, from the Eddy Arnold records her dad loved to Tchaikovsky and Bernstein. She started playing guitar at age eleven, and began playing in church at age thirteen, eventually landing a job as a church musician in her teens. She began making homemade demos and sending them to A&R executives while still in high school. Keeping up with music while earning her nursing degree, she made her first professional demo when she was twenty-one. In 1999, she founded Running Home Records, her own label in Houston, Texas. She was also performing with Running Home, an American-country-jazz duo with Suzanne Comeaux Bucher that quickly garnered airplay and a fan base across the country. While she was raising her family, Butler also began to pursue film and television licensing opportunities as an alternative to the traditional musician's path of touring. Her compositions have been placed in the music library of The Discovery Channel, among others.
Butler is releasing her first solo album, Love and Loss and Stuff Like That, in early 2014. She describes the album as a scrapbook concept, as if the listener is taking pieces of an artist's journal and absorbing a life story in frames and vignettes. Part of the draw of the recording process for Butler hearkens back to those days in her bedroom as a teenager, enveloped in liner notes and absorbing songs through endless listens on the stereo. Butler calls her style a "smooth gumbo of sound", and the listener can easily pick out country, pop, jazz, and blues influences amidst an undeniably unique sound that is steeped in years of practice and stacks of vinyl. She co-produced Love and Loss and Stuff Like That with Troy Warren, Jr., a multi-instrumentalist who back-and-forths with Butler on everything from instrumentation to arrangement. To Butler, recording is the chance to let her compositions reflects life as a whole. "It's the juxtaposition of the big romantic swells with those small, intimate moments, and there is a craft to recording that." Ultimately, Love and Loss and Stuff Like That is Elizabeth Butler's message to the world that no one is alone in their journey, and whether it be finding love, navigating through a loss, or simply driving down the highway with the radio turned up, Butler is a willing and discerning companion. -Jana Pochop for Social Thinkery.com

Suburban Mom Indie Musicians Plot To Walk the Red Carpet at GRAMMY® and HMMA Music Awards
October 20, 2014

Do you have to be 19 and able to twerk in a bikini to receive recognition as a female musician these days?
Solveig Whittle and Elizabeth Butler are proof that you don’t. These two indie female songwriter-musicians from Seattle, Washington and Houston, Texas, were notified recently that they both have songs and albums up For Consideration in the 57th Grammys and nominated for the 2014 Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMAs). The Grammys will be awarded in February of next year, but the HMMAs will be awarded sooner, on November 4th, 2014 at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles.
The two women have been strategizing for months and working together to promote their new music in an industry in which it is notoriously hard to stand out – and one that also tends to favor younger artists. They remain undaunted, however, and now their musical and co-promotional partnership created some very visible results such as their Grammy and HMMA nominations.
Like many indie musicians, Whittle and Butler have been hobbyist musicians their whole lives. Only within the last few years have they gotten serious about putting resources and time into pushing their individual music careers forward. By sharing information with each other and honing both their musical and promotional skills, they have proved that collaboration is the new route to success in the music business.
Both Whittle and Butler released new albums this fall. Whittle’s is entitled Fire and Other Playthings, and Butler’s is Love & Loss & Stuff Like That. Both artists are on the first round 57thGrammy ballots in Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Album categories. The two albums share a theme of empowerment, something both women have experienced as individuals in recent years and want to pass on to others through their music.
“I submitted my song, A1A (Settin’ Myself Free) for the HMMAs in December of 2013, and was thrilled when I heard it had been nominated for Best Americana Song, “ said Butler. “It’s an anthem for anyone going through a change, and I think it’s struck a chord with a lot of people. Fans really seem to resonate with the subject matter. It’s a little bit Thelma and Louise.”
“Elizabeth and I have been collaborating for over two years now. I was a little hesitant, but Elizabeth encouraged me to submit my work to both the Grammys and the HMMAs,” said Whittle, “The HMMA nomination is my first music award nomination ever, and I plan to make the most of the experience. Would I like to win? Sure, but just being nominated and attending the HMMAs with Elizabeth is going to be a great experience.”
Both Whittle and Butler are typical indie musicians: they also have day jobs. Creating and promoting their music is something that keeps them busy late into the night and on weekends. Butler is a registered nurse at a Houston-area hospital, and Whittle is a social media instructor at the University of Washington.
The two women met two years ago through Twitter and Soundcloud. Friendship and professional musical collaboration quickly blossomed via email, text, social media, and the cloud. Whittle was soon providing backup vocals for Butler, and then Butler flew to Seattle to attend Whittle’s 2013 CD release party for a prior album. Whittle subsequently traveled southeast in January 2014 to participate in the filming of Butler’s music video for A1A (Settin’ Myself Free). During that visit, the two began co-writing the lyrics to Light The Fire, which they finished through long-distance collaboration online over the summer. Light The Fire was released on both of their CDs (on Butler’s as a bonus track), and is one of the songs up for consideration for a Grammy.
“When we met, we realized we shared so many life experiences and values – even though we come from different parts of the country and backgrounds. We have a pack of children between us who are adults now. The bottom line is: we’ve been daughters, we’ve been moms, we’ ve been wives. We’ve launched a thousand ships, so to speak. Now it’s our turn. Our musical and personal friendship has given us the support - and that extra push - to pursue our own creative ambitions at this stage in our lives,” said Whittle.
Like Butler’s song A1A (Settin’ Myself Free), Whittle says the lyrics to her song Light The Fire speak to the lightning strike of revelation and transformation that many people feel as they get older, and realize that the clock is ticking but there are still creative things they want to do in their lives. Coming from a background in high tech marketing and business, it took Whittle many years to realize that what she really loved most was writing and singing songs, as she had in college. After that epiphany, she decided to get serious about her music because it meant much more to her than a hobby.
“For every person out there who dreams of releasing their CD, writing their novel, creating that art piece, or making that indie film - just remember that it gets easier after the kids are grown,” said Butler. “Don’t give up on your dreams – we all have so much life experience to share. You can absolutely do it!”

Daina Shukis received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance/Drama from New York University as well as studying voice and specialized in writing her own musical and vocal accompaniment for her choreography. As a dance accompanist at Skidmore College, Daina choreographed and wrote music for their dance group, as well as studied piano with Impressionist specialist Professor Housman and later with Julia Ryauskas in New Jersey. She brought the Skidmore dance group to her Alma Mater Emma Willard School. She directed the production of the William Butler Yeats play "Only Jealousy of Emer " at Skidmore, where she met Don Alias, Gene Perla and Jeremy Steig when they performed with Elvin Jones at a concert. These friendships lasted many years and their support of her music and dancing career influenced  the albums and videos presented on this website.
You may remember Stuart Klines View of Culture in his New York City News cast. Daina can be seen dancing at the Port Said where she was house dancer for many years. Prior she danced at the Egyptian Gardens and later other notable clubs in the New York area as well as Ft. Lauderdale and the West Coast. Alive way is #Flyah

Justinas Stanislovaitis founded Alive Way in 2009 Lithuania. The band’s premiere live performance was at Roko Naktys and since then band members had changed to better more suited individuals that had like minded goals. Alive Way became a 3-member band which consist of Justinas Stanislovaitis (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Kristina Jure (Vocals) and Martynas Vaicekauskas (keyboards). This dynamic trio began performing at large national venues such as festivals and the like. The one performance that changed the direction of this band was the when they attended an international song contest called Eurovision 2012 which was televised nationally. This contest changed their future. One single “Amazed by You” was played at almost all national radio stations. Their incredible sound was the hit of Europe and Alive Way was on the road to success. Alive Way’s songs are biographical and autobiographical, all told with a great rock sound to please audiences from all over the world. After all, when artists such as Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith influence you, you know the audience will listen. That hot rockin’ sound carries a beat like no other. Alive Way has taken the reigns and has brought rock to the next level. In 2012 January Alive Way announced the release of their new single "Slipped Away". This song is significant as it reflects emotion of a true story, about love that got away. This song has a mid-tempo rock beat with an edgy rock guitar sound. The drums maintain the heart beat of the song, the lyrics are profound and the vocals deliver the storyline to perfection. "Slipped Away" is a great melodic rock song arranged and performed to capture the audience’s attention. Alive Way opened for Royal Hunt. They have also received semi-final status at the Eurovision 2012. They received an award for the best singing and guest choice award at festival cia ir dabar and best guitar award at Grock. “We are doing the best for our audience. We put all our hearts into our music, so it’s true music and true emotions which encourages people to act selfless, cherish their memories and to pursue their dreams.” In 2013 Alive Way released third digital album "Summer Came Along" which rapidly climbed on local and international radio charts. Not so long ago since the last release, Alive Way released Christmas themed E.P Footprints in the Snow and a single Christmas Time which became national Christmas hit song and an international message to the world spreading the Christmas Spirit across the globe. In 2014 Alive Way released a compilation album "Popular Hits" featuring all songs which recieved most radio air time. After this long Journey only three members remained in Alive Way, but they never stopped their work and now, new album "Starlight" has been released with title song topping national and international radio charts. Universal Disciple is #Flyah

Lorenzo Hamlin was born on August 24,1979 in Newark,
New Jersey. He was the third child out of the five children, his
mother Elizabeth Hamlin gave birth to. while Growing up in
Newark it wasn't easy for Lorenzo, he faced his own share of
life's trials and tribulations as a kid. Due to the
separation and ongoing problems with his parents, at age 8
Lorenzo and his siblings had to relocate to New York City,
in Far Rockaway,Queens. It was there, he resided with his
aunt, uncle, cousins, and all of his siblings. Trying to
adjust himself to a new environment every day, he made
friends quite easy, but had problems staying out of trouble.
Lorenzo was dealing with alot of personal issues and
emotional anger for years, while living there growing up,
which made his aunt and uncle agree to send him to
Baltimore, Maryland. Making his way to Baltimore, he began
living there in a home with his aunt and three cousins. At
age eleven Lorenzo started writing lyrics, being inspired by
rappers like Special Ed, Krs 1, Chuck D and Will Smith.
Living away from his brothers and sisters for a few years,
Lorenzo began to miss the enjoyment he used to have, being
around them. So at age sixteen, he decided with his aunt, to
arrange for him to move back to New York City, where he can
once again be united with his siblings. Upon his trip back
to New York, he was determined to better himself and start
reaching all his dreams and goals. Living in the basement
with his aunt, brother and cousin, Lorenzo still knew he
would face alot of hard times ahead. His older brother Fred
Hamlin, became a very motivational person in his life, while
he continued to grow up living there. Though Lorenzo was
exposed to drugs, gangs, and violence, he kept seeking for a
way out and to better his surroundings. By age 20, Lorenzo
took writing songs more seriously and wanted to take it to
the next level. He then began writing notebooks filled with
violent lyrics daily, while showcasing his talents in
different areas in Queens on the streets where he lived.
While refining his talent, his life started to take another
direction for the better. Lorenzo wrote a positive song that
touched him deeply on the inside, it was a song he never
thought he had in him. This song was called "Jesus", it
explains how the devil came to this earth and why you should
call on Jesus in times of trouble. Lorenzo then felt it was
time for a change and that writing positive songs would be
his new direction and goal, that was around the time he
changed his name from "The Hood Assassin" to "The Purpose".
Times have changed since then, Lorenzo chose to move again
to Brooklyn, East New York, where his father, Lorenzo Turner
resided. Uniting with his father once again from years of
absence, he began to build a better relationship with him,
while living there. Having his mind made up, he still was on
a positive path and motivated to make great music every day
he could. Being influenced by artists like Nas, Common,
Kanye West, he started focusing on taking christian rap to a
whole new different level. Realizing that this was going to
be his purpose, he then changed his name to the "UniversaL
Disciple" which has become the standard name he uses to this
day. Starting out from MySpace he began exploding across the
internet, popping up on sites like Facebook, Blackplanet,
Reverbnation, Ourstage, etc. Making his presence known
everywhere he can, his journey is still beginning and it's
far from over until he reaches his destination, and that's
to the top of the ladder.

Selina Zakarias is #Flyah

After reading the musical prose that colored her grandmother's poetry at an early age, Selina Zakaria's inner voice began to seek an outlet for artistic expression. Selina's music  is filled with smooth musicality and neo-soul which weaves pop, introspective lyrics, and a voice colored by an unbreakable spirit and the raw attitude.

"Most of my music is autobiographical and personal, but occasionally, I try to speak on behalf of issues I know people can relate to,” says Zakaria. "Whether I'm writing music people can dance to, or putting together an acoustic piece that's more reflective, I'm always writing from the perspective of a storyteller looking to share experiences with the world."
Zakaria's words hold hints of self-reflection, compassion, and strength. "Insecure Girl," a song about Zakaria's own struggles with womanhood, includes a buoyant chorus that accentuates Zakaria's soulful voice. In "Morphine," Zakaria uses a 90's alt-rock arrangement to tell the story of chasing her dreams while struggling with the ever present mix of emotional overtones society inflicts.

PrettyGeeky is #Flyah

It happens very rarely that one comes across an artist as passionate and directly involved in her own work as Quianna aka PrettyGeeky.  PrettyGeeky has made a name for herself as one of the few female rappers who mix and master her own songs.  Her talents show in her fresh beats and inspired lyrics.

To so many performers out there, music is nothing more than a shallow product for entertainment purposes. On the other hand, there are many brilliant, driven and inspired performers who make a point to load their art with something more than just a catchy hook and a fun line. They strive to express themselves, share emotions, convey feelings and open their heart to whoever is willing to listen to them, be it a live crowd or a lonely listener with a pair of headphones out at the bus stop. This is definitely the case for PG, an artist who makes music with a powerful, direct and distinct emotional footprint.

PG is constantly evolving as an artist, yet her appeal is direct and honest, from heart to heart; from soul to soul.

Her style is fresh and uplifting, yet warm, soulful and inspirational, not unlike some of the most esteemed chart toppers of the past few decades!

Find out more about PrettyGeeky and her music and let her work tell you the rest of this story!

N.B. Fills Everyone’s Empties with “Drinks on Me”
The ‘Rapper-Sanger’ is back with an intense yet delicious banger made from his own recipe of r&b and rap… and radio’s drinking it up.

“A more original sound than most – It’s rare. Keep it up." - Eruption Productions
(LAUDERHILL, FLORIDA) September 30th, 2014 – N.B. “The Rapper Sanger” is back! This time he's mixed together an intense, delicious ‘banger’ with his new single, “Drinks on Me.” His recipe is simple; take a combo of r&b and rap and add a splash of hip-hop. Then, you simply top it off with some smooth, southern swag. N.B. always serves it chilled to the ladies, but he’s filling up everyone’s empties with “Drinks on Me.”
N.B.'s N.B. is an award-winning musician and a man of many talents. Over the last decade in the industry, he’s worked to perfect his skillset to include everything from audio engineering and production all the way to on-screen acting in popular television shows. His musical accolades include charting at number six internationally in 2010 with his single, “Shawty What it Do.”
Within "Drinks on Me," N.B. displays his uncanny ability to create a uniquely stylistic collision of hip-hop and r&b – all wrapped into an addictive melody. He elaborates, “The creative objective in this song was to show my fun-loving personality. It’s an uplifting party song because my glass is always half full... it’s my mantra.” The composition is penned by N.B. and he also co-produced the track with the talented Alejandro Beatz. The highly-anticipated video for “Drinks on Me” is slated for release in October.
Radio stations such as Winter Park’s 91.5FM and The Edge 88.7FM in the U.S.A. are already slamming down rounds of “Drinks on Me.” In addition, the track is also getting a foothold in Asia and Europe as well – in rotation on stations such as Milan, Italy’s 96.5FM. While N.B. feels he is a blend of T.I., R. Kelly and T.Pain, he’s never boxed himself into any one style. Maybe ‘N.B.’ really stands for “never boxed” rather than Norris Bennett? Just as N.B. says, “This single isn't the typical lyrically-limp liquor. This is from the top shelf, so pour a glass … the 'Drinks on Me.'"
